Extract Pages from PDF 2026 — Free Online
Name the pages worth keeping and everything else is left behind. Unlike splitting, which divides a document and keeps all of it, extraction produces one file containing only what you asked for — useful when a form wants three pages of a forty-page document.
Extracting is not splitting
Splitting divides a document and every page survives somewhere. Extraction is selective: you name pages 3, 7 and 11, you get a three-page file, and the other thirty-seven are simply not in it.
That is what makes it the right tool for sending only the relevant part of something. An insurer wanting the schedule of a policy does not want the policy. A landlord asking for two payslips does not want the whole statement. Extraction sends exactly what was asked for, which is also the safer answer when the rest of the document is not their business.
Order, and what carries over
Pages come out in document order regardless of the order you name them, so entering 11, 3, 7 produces a file reading 3, 7, 11. Rearranging is a separate operation.
Each extracted page keeps its content exactly — text stays selectable, images keep their resolution, and nothing is re-compressed. Annotations attached to an extracted page come with it. Bookmarks pointing at pages you did not extract are dropped, because they lead nowhere.
Form fields survive, but a field whose value is calculated from a page you left behind will not compute. Worth checking if the pages are part of a fillable form.
- Pages emerge in document order, not the order you list them
- Text stays selectable; nothing is re-compressed
- Bookmarks to pages you did not keep are dropped
What extraction does not remove
Taking three pages out of a document does not strip the file's metadata. Author, creation date and producing software normally carry across, and if the original came from a template the metadata can name it.
Extraction is about which pages are visible, not about anonymising a file. If the document is going to someone outside your organisation and its origin matters, check the properties after extracting.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between extracting and splitting?
Splitting divides a document and keeps every page somewhere. Extracting keeps only the pages you name and leaves the rest behind, producing a single file.
Do the pages come out in the order I type them?
No — they come out in document order. Entering 11, 3, 7 gives a file reading 3, 7, 11. Reordering is a separate step.
Does extracting reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution. Nothing is re-compressed.
Does extraction remove the document's metadata?
No. Author, creation date and producing application normally carry over. Extraction controls which pages are included, not what the file says about its origin.
Can I extract from a scanned PDF?
Yes. Scanned pages are images and are copied intact. The text will not be selectable unless the scan had already been through OCR, which extraction does not change either way.
